Snowed in!

Due to snow filming was not done in the week period before Christmas. We should resume in the next couple of weeks.

Friday 10 December 2010

1st Film day!

Today we filmed our first part of the music video. It was filmed at a cafe and shows one of the members of the boybands rejection by a girl, which the other four will next experience.

Tuesday 23 November 2010

the storyline behind our video

the storyline is this:

the five boyband members are all chasing one girl but do they get her?

they all atempt to try their luck by taking her on various different dates, cafe, movie, park, restuarant etc.

the boys fail at this and another random boy from out of nowhere comes and the boys 'lose' her

this leaves the boyband unhappy at the end of the video.

the dates will be shown in flashback cuts.

THE PITCH

I was not in the day for pitching are ideas due to illness, so the other person in my group, Stacey, had to do it herself. From the feedback we got it has been decided that instead of our idea being in just one place, the Abbey Ruins, it will now vary to different places to make the video more exciting.

The Wanted

I think that The Wanted is the most similar to our boyband. This would be the group we would have to compete with if we were on the market today. I think both groups would be fighting for the support of young girls to buy their music.

Here is an example of one of The Wanted's songs, it has many of the same features as our video such as the boyband members are in most of the shots and the style of song is similar.

similar boybands

Blue

Backstreet boys

I think that our boyband are similar to these but of course younger. The type of music is the same which is pop with a slight RNB/hip-hop feel to it.

Bruno Mars: Just the way you are

I think the clever thing about this video is the effect used on the tape to form pictures on the table. Although this would take very good special effects equipment, it would be something that i would like to include in my own music video.

Groups picked!

Today we were given are 6 choices of artists to take on and make a music video, we were also asked to pick who we are going to work with in our groups. Me and Stacey decided we were going together and we both decided to make a music video on a boy group called Smooth Criminals, with the classic N sync song: 'Its gonna be me'.

ROUGH TRADE

ROUGH TRADE:

Independent music: music that isnt in a big record label.

Rough Trade started more than 30 years ago, in 1976.

Jeff Travis started a record shop called Rough Trade.

The shop stocked for artists that wanted to 'do it yourself'.

In 1977, Richard Scott joined Rough Trade.

Rough Trade became a record label equality.

Signing Stiff Little Fingers was major: sold 100,000 copies of their first album.

By 1980, Rough Trade has grown massive, but still couldn't get a hit.

Then Rough Trade becomes close to going bust.

1982, shop sold but name kept on.

Offices move around Europe and America.

End of 80's, Rave music becomes big.

December 1990, downhill.

March 1991, half staff axed.

June 1991, ceased trading.

But Rough Trade was revived.

1993, Jeff Travis becomes manager of the band Pulp.

Rough Trade records comes back in New York.

2006, Duffy becomes labels first number one hit with 'mercy' after 30 years of it starting.

case study on artist: Robbie Williams

Formerly in the band Take That, but departed from the band in 1995 to pursue a solo career. It took Robbie Williams time to get started but his first single was a cover of George Michael's "Freedom '90." Released late in 1996, the single was a disaster, but his second single, 1997's "Old Before I Die," was more in the vein of his early pronouncements, featuring a distinct Oasis influence.
Robbie Williams finally released his first solo album, Life Thru a Lens, in 1997. The album became a big hit in Britain, prompting his second, I've Been Expecting You, to go multi-platinum upon its release in 1998. (The Ego Has Landed, a U.S.-only compilation designed for breaking Robbie to American audiences, was released stateside in the spring of 1999.) Sing When You're Winning followed in late 2000, gaining success with the video hit "Rock DJ," while a big-band album of standards (Swing When You're Winning) appeared a year later. By this point, Robbie Williams had become one of Europe's premier pop stars, known for his headline-grabbing behavior as much as his hit-studded albums. Moreover, his solo work had some far more copies than his work with Take That.

During 2002, Robbie celebrated an enormous new contract with EMI (rumored to be upwards of $80 million dollars), but suffered the loss of his longtime production partner, Guy Chambers. Escapology, the fifth Robbie Williams album (and the last including Chambers' input), sold millions of copies in Europe, though it failed to persuade American audiences. As a result, the 2003 concert record Live at Knebworth wasn't released in the States. He introduced a new musical partner, Stephen Duffy, with a pair of songs from his compilation Greatest Hits, then reappeared in 2005 with Intensive Care. Although the album topped charts in Europe and helped Robbie set an impressive concert record -- his 2006 world tour sold over 1.5 million tickets in one day -- a certain creative atrophy was setting in, despite the new input of Duffy. Within a year, he had recorded and released Rudebox, a dance album recorded with half a dozen outside producers, some featured guests, and several covers instead of self-penned material. Rudebox hit number one across Europe but only went double platinum in the U.K., becoming his lowest-selling studio album to date. Accordingly, Williams' next album -- the 2009 release Reality Killed the Video Star -- found him returning to the sound of his older albums, with the Buggles' Trevor Horn handling all production duties.
